    Can anybody tell me how a liquid gate works and what type of liquid contains?

    Here is a "watered-down" version....

    The film is "lubricated" just long-enough for it to reach the video scanner.

    This technique can significantly reduce visible scratches.

    The lubricant must then evaporate BEFORE the film is spooled back up onto the take-up reel...

    Some solutions that have been used have been outlawed for being toxic for humans to breathe or touch.

    Many of the liquids that have been tried might be flammable... so don't try this with any type of heat based video transfer system!

    The room needs to be well ventilated.
